Netter, Charles
(1826-82)
   French philanthropist. He was born in Strasbourg. He went into business in Lille, Moscow and London, and in 1851 settled in Paris, where he engaged in various public activities. One of the founders of the Alliance Israelite Universelle, he served as its treasurer. He established the Mikveh Israel Agricultural School near Jaffa, and was its first director (1870-3). He was also active in Jewish philanthropic work in Europe.
